If you aren’t holding a party of your own and find yourself in London, why not attend one of the numerous events celebrating US independence that can be found over the capital? Here are a few of our favourites:
– Paying a visit to Benjamin Franklin House
For nearly 16 years between 1757 and 1775, the scientist, diplomat, philosopher and inventor, Dr Benjamin Franklin lived behind the doors of this house situated in the heart of the city.
One of America’s founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin main occupation while residing in this house on Craven Street was mediating unrest between Britain and America, alongside this he also served as Deputy Postmaster for the Colonies and pursued his love of science (exploring bifocal spectacles and the energy-saving Franklin stove); health (inoculation and air baths) and music (inventing the delightful glass armonica for which Mozart, Bach and Beethoven composed)
On the 4th of July, the house will be opening its doors and inviting visitors to enjoy a slice of cake and glass of bubbly whilst toasting America.
– Booking a table at the Blues Kitchen
Offering up a southern fried slice of BBQ, blues and rock n’roll, Camden’s Blues Kitchen makes for an exciting place to celebrate Independence Day. Come the 4th of July, the resident band will take to the stage and perform live with a strictly southern rock playlist comprising of covers from Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Black Crowes, The Allman Brothers and more. While the bar and the kitchen will provide a nice taste of Americana complete with burgers, piles of pancakes, soul food and bourbon.
