Guinness World Records adjudicators have confirmed that the Dubai New Year’s Eve firework display was the largest ever New Year’s Eve display. In fact enough fireworks were launched during the first minute of the display to break the previous record set by Kuwait in 2011 which was an hour-long display containing over 70,000 fireworks.
With over half a million fireworks spread along nearly 60 miles of the Dubai coast the world’s largest new year display lasted just 6 minutes. The main displays took place on one of three palm-shaped islands.
US firm Fireworks by Grucci designed the display over 10 months and used 100 computers and 200 technicians to synchronise the firework which reportedly cost around $6 million.
Dubai has become a permanent fixture on the world map of New Year celebrations since the spectacular opening of the 828-metre (2,716-foot) Burj Khalifa tower in 2010.
